Tooltip Overview

Tooltips are small text boxes that pop up briefly near the mouse cursor whenever the cursor "hovers" over a specific item for a preset length of time. They are typically little yellow boxes with a text description in them that, for example, appear over toolbar buttons. Their purpose is to provide immediate help to the user about unfamiliar items, whenever a user appears to "hesitate" by hovering over a user interface object.

The Tooltip commands give you extensive control over tooltips, enabling you to set constraints on the size of the tooltip window, the colors and font used, as well as the duration for which the tooltip will be displayed.
