in line with ol' Murphy our client now wants to run our application on his laptop, which has Vista. Just want to check/confirm - are there issues/problems/don't do things in order to run the exe files on vista.
thanks,

New security applies to any application running on Vista. Some examples of what people were able to do before Vista and are not able to any longer include:

  • writing to the Program Files folder is only allowed by administrators, since this implies an installation
  • installers require administrator privileges. So if you launch an installer from your application (using ssCore.Shell.execute), you will need to include a manifest that requests a rise in privileges when your application starts. Otherwise use ssCore.Shell.open to launch the installer, which will then prompt the user and require admin privileges.

There might be other issues that affect your application, so test your application on Vista. Make sure you have some type of error handling in place. If an error happens, as long as your application can handle it and/or you get notified about it you can resolve or at least explain it.
